Abstract:

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have revolutionized the educational landscape by providing accessible, flexible, and cost-effective learning opportunities to a global audience. This paper explores the origins and development of MOOCs, examines their impact on higher education, discusses the challenges they face, and examines their future prospects, with a special emphasis on India’s adoption and adaptation of this educational model.

Introduction:-
The advent of the internet and digital technologies has transformed various sectors, including education. MOOCs1 emerged as a significant innovation, aiming to democratize education by offering free or affordable courses to anyone with internet access. The term “MOOC” was coined in 2008, and since then, platforms like Coursera, edX, and India’s SWAYAM have proliferated, offering courses across diverse disciplines.
